2018. 27th December 2018 in fact. This was the last time I published a blog post.
It was about Christmas Ham to be honest, and feeding the 5000 (that’s an exaggeration). You can read it here if you like Xmas Ham to the Rescue
I am not sure why I stopped writing the blog, it found it very therapeutic to put my words down on a medium of some form. Actually, just typing that brought back memories of being the minute taker at an old job. Ended up having to handwrite nearly 15 pages of A4, both sides for one meeting over the space of 90 minutes… double sided…
Pretty sure that gave me carpal tunnel syndrome.
I digress, it was actually as early as August 2018 that I had stopped writing on my blog. It was a time where I had gotten a new job. I was leaving the recruitment agency where I had worked for over eight years, and moving into a new role at fintech startup in payments.
It was new
It was exciting
It was awesome
… and I was way over my head.
Needless to say, I sadly jumped ship by November. Many reasons can be bandied about as to why I left, but it came down to: I screwed up.
It was November, It wasn’t the greatest time for me. Having been in full time employment since leaving University back in 2000 (you do the math, and tell me how old I am) I was trying to figure out what was possible for me.
The good thing was that there were many opportunities for tech recruitment and it thankfully didn’t take too long before I landed at a new place.
Embedded Talent they called it, and if you look at the list of clients they worked with, it’s hard to say no to what they do. Spotify, King, Apple, and the place where I ended up… Booking.com
In Amsterdam….
7 months of going back and forth to Amsterdam. On paper, it sounds amazing… exotic even. Working abroad in a fantastic city, flights, accommodation paid for…
In the whole 7 months, I was going back and forth, my flight took off and landed on time exactly…. three times.
THREE TIMES! I was flying in and out nearly every other week. 30+ flights! Also on our first flight out there are luggage was nearly lost
Thanks EasyJet
But like all good things, it came to an end. And my CEO wasn’t happy.
I will miss the food
However, I really really wanted to make photography a thing now. Not just something I did for instagram, but as an actual career.
So I handed in my notice (they were awesome in letting me go ASAP).
And I dived into the world of being a freelancer
(actually I dived into the world of being unemployed again)…
